With those principles and an even stronger Christian heritage, E.P. Gerber began his small sawmill in 1901. Early on, he humbly sought to serve the basic needs of the Kidron (Sonnenberg) community. Soon, however, he realized that the growing and prospering community needed a full-service hardware store featuring a large inventory of lumber and construction materials.
As second, and then later third generations joined the company, it expanded to include a full-service mill and woodworking shop. More recently, the company (via Gerber Wood Products division) added multiple molders, as well as a full line of equipment, to manufacture moldings, stair parts, handrails, advertising specialties, surfaced boards, and industrial components. Today, with acres of lumber inventory and over 50,000 square feet of millwork capacity, Gerber leads the way in serving builders, contractors, and other woodworking professionals.
While a lot has changed since 1901, The Gerber Lumber team of professionals still adhere to E.P.’s basic ingredients of honesty, integrity, and a sincere dedication to customer service.
